When you visit our retail store you will find two stories of shopping delight! Our first floor is full of thousands of hand-painted items from unique table settings and accent pieces to mugs for that perfect cup of coffee. Everything on our first floor is first quality and considered unblemished (by our standards). Below, on our "Seconds Basement" floor, you will find pallets of ware to sort through with minor blemishes. These items are offered at 50% off first quality pricing. Monday-Friday we have a decorator on site so you can witness the decorating process firsthand. Groups of 10+ or buses are welcome by appointment. We will offer you a tour through our manufacturing floor.

Ohio Stoneware has a unique clay formula and a unique glaze formula... both of which help create the quality Ohio Stoneware is so well known for. Many processes are used when making a piece of pottery. Items can be pressed, slip casted, or hand turned on a wheel. Each of these processes take a unique clay and process.

What Makes a Second?

Pottery manufacturing includes many variables. From the moment a piece is poured or pressed, it is susceptible to many imperfections. Many items could be handled up to a dozen times before they are shipped to the retailer. It's easy to see just how much can go wrong, even when an expert is making the piece. A piece can become a second at any point in its lifetime in our factory... from as soon as the clay is processed, through each hand that touches it, and even as it's sanded after it comes out of the kiln. When we talk about "seconds", what we're really addressing is a matter of quality.
