Crocks

Our multi-functional preserving crocks serve many uses.

Traditionally, and before the advent of refrigeration, crocks were used in American kitchens to hold foodstuffs such as butter, salted meats and pickled vegetables. The crocks were invariably made of stoneware, a durable, economical ceramic that remains water-tight, even without a glaze. They are excellent for preserving vegetables, such as cucumbers for pickling, and cabbage for sauerkraut. (Crocks filled with food for fermentation purposes should be kept in cool, dry environments, which allows the fruits and vegetables to ferment naturally.)

Our preserving crocks can also be used for everyday purposes, such as pantry storage and kitchen containers. They are perfect for holding potpourri, candy, magazines, kitchen utensils, cookbooks, pens, pencils, and/or candles. Some of them are even size appropriate to be used as pet feeders.

We carry six sizes of Ohio Stoneware crocksweights, and preserving covers. They are all available in 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 10 Gallon sizes... and they are all sold separately, except in the case of our two starter kits. When purchasing crockscovers, and weights separately, keep in mind that the lid size and weight size should match the crock size. For example, the 1 Gallon Crock has a 1 Gallon Cover and a set of 1 Gallon weights, both sized to fit the 1 Gallon Crock.

Our starter kits come in two crock sizes... a 3-Piece 1 Gallon Starter Kit... and a 3-Piece 2 Gallon Starter Kit.
