These beautiful Ohio Stoneware crock covers are very useful, and make a nice addition to any stoneware collection.
This is a cover for Ohio Stoneware's 1 Gallon Stoneware Crock. It is only available in Bristol (our off-white colored glaze).
Our crock lids are made of hand-finished glazed stoneware that prevents open-air contamination and keeps mold and aerobic bacteria from tainting your fermenting food. It protects food during the fermentation process, as well as protecting any food stored inside the crock in the kitchen or pantry. It is made of the same durable material as the crocks. The lip on the lid holds it securely in place.
When purchasing our crocks, covers, and weights, please keep in mind that we carry six sizes of Ohio Stoneware preserving crocks, weights, and covers. Lid size and weight size should match the crock size, (I.e., 1 gallon lid pairs with the 1 gallon crock, and the 1 gallon weight set pairs with the 1 gallon crock). Available in 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 10 gallon sizes.
The 1 Gallon Crock and 1 Gallon Weight Set are sold separately! You can also purchase the complete 1 Gallon Crock Starter Kit, which includes all three pieces.. the crock, cover, and weights to keep food submerged for safe, efficient pickling and fermenting.

The lid looks very nice and being slightly larger than the diameter of the crock makes it easy to handle. I bought my crock four or five years ago and been mainly using a water filled bag before. I found that my lid doesn't actually sit flush with the brim of the crock (though I couldn't say exactly which piece is to blame for that) so in order to create a seal I stick a silicone lid underneath this one. The idea is that the weight from the ceramic lid will press the silicone one back down after a ferment burps. It's not ideal, but it will definitely do the trick. The ceramic lid will also stop anything from accidentally knocking in my silicone one, so I don't regret having bought it despite it not fitting perfectly.
great product - well packaged
